• Question: have you ever blown your lab up

      I haven’t personally, but a lab that I used to work in did once blow up. It was really scary, because we had to evacuate the whole building, and no-one knew when they could go back to work and people close to the lab had to have special health checks and things. The lab itself was then quarantined (out of bounds) for a really long time.

      I have to say no – thaat would sort of ruin my reputation in radiation protection. A colleague a few years back told me of when he had his lab evacuated – he was making toast and the toast caught fire which set off the smoke alarm. Rather than own up he hid the toaster. The place was evacuated and they lost a whole morning’s work!

      thank goodness no! we have had a lab blow up in my building but it was before I started working there. we are really careful to follow all the rules and be safe to stop it happening again
