Skin colour evolved over time as a response to climatic and environmental conditions. So people who lived in really hot, sunny countries needed more protection against the damaging UV light from the sun, and they developed darker skin. Also, in areas like Britain and Northern Europe, where we don’t get much sunlight, our bodies developed pale skin so we can absorb the vitamin D from the sunlight better. But, this means that pale skin people need extra sun-cream and protection in really sunny places and dark skin people need to take extra vitamin D when then come to areas like the UK because they can’t absorb enough from the weaker sunlight that we have here.
