      Yes, it is a great industry. Most scientists love their jobs and there are lots of careers you can take from teaching to research work, plus lots of people study science and uni and can then get jobs in finance, management etc as they have loads of great skills employers want from studying science

      I would certainly encourage you to study science further and I do think there are opportunities in the science industry. But, as to life choice, it really depends on if you enjoy science. It was only recently that I decided to become a scientist (6 years ago) and I found that I loved science and I enjoy the challenges that it give me, but equally I know people who really don’t like the subject and so it would have been silly for them to study it at a higher level as it wasn’t the right career choice for them. I do think you should keep your options open and science is certainly a very useful subject to know for that reason.

      Indeed – science is such a wide and varied subject area – just look at the different jobs which the scientists on here do – and that is just a tiny part of the world of science. Everyting from improving treatments in hospitals, improving communications, space exploration and astronomy….its such a wide ranging field. At 13 it is also important to have a fairly broad base – Maths and English are particularly important, but I’d encourage anyone with an interest in science to follow it up with aa view to making it a career.

      @Greeniscreative
      Keep your options broad for as long as possible, it means that there are more jobs that you can choose from when you really decide what you want to be.
      Enjoy whatever you do, and work really hard. You get more out of a lesson that way.
      I would still want to work in a hospital, I love my job in Microbiology, it’s great!
