I have done some events with young people. I helped the RSC Belgium section (Royal Society of Chemistry) at an event called ‘Green light 4 girls’ where we showed students how to make an acid/alkali indicator from red cabbage water, and what happens when you make cheese. I also did a demo with the pXRF (portable X-ray Fluorescence spectrometer – thing that looks like a ray gun) at a public lecture, to see if we could identify any fake pound coins in the audience.
not at the moment, we have had some schools visit our uni chemistry labs this week though and they had a great time and we have people who go into schools to talk about chemistry and do experiments
Not personally, though older pupils will come to visit sometimes and I will tell them about various aspects involved in my work and demonstrate particular experiments. It is a bonus if they work thought!
