      quite a long time…the ‘human’ species which have the distinction ‘homo’ emerged around 2.3 million years ago. The first of these was homo habilis or the tool maker. Archaic homo sapiens (the branch of the species that we evolved from) emerged from their ancestors between 400,000 and 250,000 years ago.
