• Question: If marbles are not made of marble, why are they called marbles?

      I’m not sure! apparently the first marbles were made of clay and glass, marble has always been quite valuable though so maybe they wanted to make them from marble but it was too expensive so they just named them that instead 🙂

      Originally (back in Egyptian and Roman times) marbles were made of marble (or marble-like rock) but it was too expensive to produce them from this material and so people began making them from clay and glass and other materials…I guess the name just stuck.
