I was about 11 or 12 I think but it is hard to remember exactly when! we had to write about what career we wanted in year 9 at school and I said I wanted to be a chemist so it was definately before then

when I was about 25. I got really frustrated because I had to send my objects to someone else so that they could tell me what they were and what they were made from and how old they were etc. I wanted to be able to do that myself, so I went back to uni and retrained.

Probably seriously from the age oft about 21 – I was offered the opportunity to do a PhD in Laser physics – it sounded interesting, and it was. Set me along the scientific career path.
